-What Does the word "Cursillo" mean?
The word "Cursillo" (Kur-see-yo) is Spanish. It means a short course or little study.
-What is Cursillo?
Cursillo is:
• a movement of the Episcopal Church and is authorized by the Bishop of the Diocese of Indianapolis.
• a method that equips and encourages Christians to live out there Baptismal Covenant to serve Christ.
• short course to help those in the church understand their individual callings to be Christian Leaders
in their families, in social life, in leisure activities and within the Church environments
• an opportunity for Christians to renew and deepen Christian commitment.
• is patterned on Jesus' own example of sending his Disciples into the world to bring the world to Him.
Cursillo is NOT:
• a retreat.
• fasting.
• long periods of silence.
• a cult or private society.
-What is "The Method"?
"The Method" is:
• how Christian leaders are gathered, trained and linked together and sent out into the world to
• bring the world to Him.
• Divided into three parts; pre-Cursillo, the Three-Day Weekend and the Fourth Day.
-What is pre-Cursillo?
Pre-Cursillo is:
• the period when sponsors, individuals that have that have been to the Three-Day Weekend
• and are living the Fourth Day, identify and recommend individuals who are committed to an active Christian
life for candidacy to the Three-Day Weekend.
• the period when candidates are informed of what to expect and assisted in appropriate preparations.
-What is expected of a candidate?
A candidate should:
• be curious.
• be open to what happens.
• be honest with yourself about where you are in your spiritual pilgrimage
• know that no specific response is expected of you.
• allow others to respond in their way and yourself to respond in your own way.
-What is the Three-Day Weekend?
The Three-Day Weekend:
• begins on a Thursday evening and ends the following Sunday evening.
• is a time to listen to talks about: Ideals, Grace, The Church, Piety, Study, Sacraments,
Action, Obstacles to Grace, Leaders, Environment and Christianity in Action. Each talk is followed by
• a discussion period in small groups.
• is a time for Daily Eucharist and Prayer.
• is a time for music, fun and snacks.
• is a time for small surprises.
• is love, not just spoken, but made real.
• is an experience of Christian Community.
-What is the Fourth Day?
The Fourth Day is:
• the rest of your life. It begins when you leave your Weekend on Sunday evening.
• when you will be practicing your leadership in your environments as you may be called to do.
• composed of three major elements: Group Reunion, Ultreya, and Spiritual Direction.
-Who will be at Cursillo?

laity and clergy who are curious, searching, discovering, growing.

lay men and women who spend weeks working together preparing for a weekend
and becoming a community.
